Heat Pump Repair in Berwyn, PA
Plumsteadville HVAC Pros covers Berwyn for heat pump repair, 29 miles from the original Plumsteadville shop and a good deal closer than that in practice.
Heat pumps are going into Berwyn properties in real numbers now, and they generate more worried phone calls per unit than anything else we service — mostly because normal cold-weather behaviour looks like a fault to anyone used to a furnace.
Berwyn is covered overnight and through holidays. The crew dispatched is the nearest one working Chester County, not whoever is free back in Plumsteadville.
The usual suspects
A unit encased in ice means defrost is not working. Cooling fine but not heating points squarely at the reversing valve. Auxiliary heat on a mild day means the heat pump is not pulling its weight, and charge is the first thing to check.
Heating and cooling around Berwyn
Around Berwyn the fuel is usually natural gas, though propane turns up wherever the main stops short. What makes Chester County distinctive is the age of the buildings: stone farmhouses and pre-war homes that were designed around radiators and later had ductwork threaded through them.
Those retrofits are behind a lot of the comfort complaints we are called about — rooms that never settle, and a system blamed for duct problems.
Ice left on an outdoor unit restricts airflow until the system cannot heat at all, and can damage the fan. Switch to emergency heat and call rather than chipping at it.
What happens when you call
You get the diagnostic charge before anyone is dispatched to Berwyn, and the repair price before any work begins. No invoice should ever be a surprise.

Heat Pump Repair in Berwyn — questions
Do you cover Berwyn for heat pump repair?
Yes. Berwyn in Chester County is inside our service area and the 19312 postal area is worked by the nearest crew. Call (215) 484-0300 at any hour, including nights, weekends and holidays.
Is ice on the outdoor unit normal?
Light frost between defrost cycles is. A solid shell of ice over the coil or fan is not — switch to emergency heat and call rather than chipping at it, which damages the coil.
My electricity bill doubled this winter. Is that the heat pump?
Very likely, and it usually means resistance backup is doing work the heat pump should be doing. Low charge, a failed outdoor fan, a stuck reversing valve or a misconfigured thermostat all produce that bill.
Why does my heat pump blow cool-feeling air?
Because it delivers a larger volume of mildly warm air rather than hot blasts. Around body temperature at the register is normal and the house will still reach temperature.
