Heat Pump Repair in Fox Chapel, PA
Plumsteadville HVAC Pros covers Fox Chapel for heat pump repair, 250 miles from the original Plumsteadville shop and a good deal closer than that in practice.
We work on air-source heat pumps and dual-fuel setups throughout Fox Chapel, including the thermostat configuration that decides when the system hands over to backup — a setting that quietly costs money all winter when it is wrong.
Fox Chapel is covered overnight and through holidays. The crew dispatched is the nearest one working Allegheny County, not whoever is free back in Plumsteadville.
What we usually find
Defrost control boards and sensors, reversing valves that will not switch, failed outdoor fan motors, run capacitors, and refrigerant charge low enough that auxiliary heat is carrying the house.
Heating and cooling around Fox Chapel
Natural gas is abundant across south-western Pennsylvania, and Fox Chapel is almost entirely gas-heated as a result. The housing stock around Allegheny County leans heavily on mid-century construction, so a large share of what we repair is forced-air furnaces of a similar vintage and layout.
River valley properties bring their own complication: damp basements, corroded flues and condensate lines that need more attention than they usually get.
What happens when you call
The technician confirms the fault before quoting it, gives you the price, and starts only once you agree. If something else turns up mid-repair, we stop and ask rather than adding it to the invoice.

Heat Pump Repair in Fox Chapel — questions
Do you cover Fox Chapel for heat pump repair?
Yes. Fox Chapel in Allegheny County is inside our service area and the 15238 postal area is worked by the nearest crew. Call (215) 484-0300 at any hour, including nights, weekends and holidays.
Do heat pumps work through a Allegheny County winter?
Modern cold-climate models do, with backup for the coldest stretches. Older single-stage units hand over to backup much sooner, which is where the reputation came from.
My electricity bill doubled this winter. Is that the heat pump?
Very likely, and it usually means resistance backup is doing work the heat pump should be doing. Low charge, a failed outdoor fan, a stuck reversing valve or a misconfigured thermostat all produce that bill.
Is ice on the outdoor unit normal?
Light frost between defrost cycles is. A solid shell of ice over the coil or fan is not — switch to emergency heat and call rather than chipping at it, which damages the coil.
