Heat Pump Repair in Lykens, PA
heat pump repair in Lykens, PA 17048 — diagnosed before it is quoted, priced before the work starts.
Defrost cycles, long run times and air that feels cool at the register are all normal. Ice encasing the outdoor unit and auxiliary heat running on a mild day are not. We sort out which is which for Lykens homeowners.
Call (215) 484-0300 at any hour and a person answers. No menu, no answering service, and no callback queue for a Lykens house with no heat.
The usual suspects
A unit encased in ice means defrost is not working. Cooling fine but not heating points squarely at the reversing valve. Auxiliary heat on a mild day means the heat pump is not pulling its weight, and charge is the first thing to check.
Heating and cooling around Lykens
Heating in Lykens tends to split between gas furnaces in newer housing and hydronic systems in the older stock. Dauphin County has a good deal of nineteenth-century building still in daily use, and much of it is heated by boilers that reward proper servicing.
Propane is common enough here that tank level and regulator faults are worth ruling out before anything else on a no-heat call.
What happens when you call
Diagnosis first, price second, work third. Most Lykens jobs are finished on the first visit; where a part has to be ordered we tell you what the house can safely run on in the meantime.

Heat Pump Repair in Lykens — questions
Do you cover Lykens for heat pump repair?
Yes. Lykens in Dauphin County is inside our service area and the 17048 postal area is worked by the nearest crew. Call (215) 484-0300 at any hour, including nights, weekends and holidays.
Why does my heat pump blow cool-feeling air?
Because it delivers a larger volume of mildly warm air rather than hot blasts. Around body temperature at the register is normal and the house will still reach temperature.
My electricity bill doubled this winter. Is that the heat pump?
Very likely, and it usually means resistance backup is doing work the heat pump should be doing. Low charge, a failed outdoor fan, a stuck reversing valve or a misconfigured thermostat all produce that bill.
Is ice on the outdoor unit normal?
Light frost between defrost cycles is. A solid shell of ice over the coil or fan is not — switch to emergency heat and call rather than chipping at it, which damages the coil.
