Heat Pump Repair in Moscow, PA
Plumsteadville HVAC Pros covers Moscow for heat pump repair, 69 miles from the original Plumsteadville shop and a good deal closer than that in practice.
A heat pump works all winter in Moscow, which means its outdoor unit has to stay clear of snow and meltwater in a way an air conditioner never does. A good share of our winter calls here start there.
Moscow is covered overnight and through holidays. The crew dispatched is the nearest one working Lackawanna County, not whoever is free back in Plumsteadville.
What goes wrong
Thermostat configuration is a quiet and expensive fault. A thermostat replaced without setting up heat pump staging will run resistance heat far more than it needs to, and nothing about the system looks broken.
Heating and cooling around Moscow
Lackawanna County runs on a genuine mix: natural gas where the main reaches, oil and propane where it does not. In Moscow that means a technician has to be equally comfortable with a cad cell and a flame sensor.
This is also anthracite country, and a handful of properties still have the chimney and flue arrangements of much older heating systems, which affects how modern equipment vents.
Ice left on an outdoor unit restricts airflow until the system cannot heat at all, and can damage the fan. Switch to emergency heat and call rather than chipping at it.

Heat Pump Repair in Moscow — questions
Do you cover Moscow for heat pump repair?
Yes. Moscow in Lackawanna County is inside our service area and the 18444 postal area is worked by the nearest crew. Call (215) 484-0300 at any hour, including nights, weekends and holidays.
Is ice on the outdoor unit normal?
Light frost between defrost cycles is. A solid shell of ice over the coil or fan is not — switch to emergency heat and call rather than chipping at it, which damages the coil.
My electricity bill doubled this winter. Is that the heat pump?
Very likely, and it usually means resistance backup is doing work the heat pump should be doing. Low charge, a failed outdoor fan, a stuck reversing valve or a misconfigured thermostat all produce that bill.
Do heat pumps work through a Lackawanna County winter?
Modern cold-climate models do, with backup for the coldest stretches. Older single-stage units hand over to backup much sooner, which is where the reputation came from.
